As we prepare to leave spring behind and move ever closer to summer, the days are heating up but that doesn’t mean game releases are slowing down. Summer is traditionally a more laid back affair in the gaming world, but this year we seem to be spoiled for choice.
Nintendo Switch 2
First and foremost, we obviously have the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th. I pre-ordered mine from Amazon Canada and its supposed to get here on the 9th. I’ll definitely have some unboxing images, as well as a first impressions article, a few days after I have the system in my hands.
I’m excited to play Mario Kart, but I’m equally excited to use the Switch 2 as a chance to get a fresh start on a few of my Switch games, such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokemon. I’m still debating whether I’ll do Sword, Alpha Sapphire, or Violet. I’ve STILL never beaten a Pokemon game and I want to change that. I also want to beat my two Switch Fire Emblem games. The list never ends, I tell ya!
I got the Mario Kart World bundle, since I’m eager to play that game and thought the bundle was a good deal. I’m thinking of starting as Rosalina. I’m also curious if other characters will get horror themed costumes, like Waluigi’s vampire costume in the trailer. So, who are you planning on driving as?
The other game I’m looking forward to getting for the Switch 2 is Bravely Default Remaster. I owned it on the 3DS back in the day, but never fully cleared it despite liking the cast. The perks of additional mini games, as well as playing on a TV rather than a handheld, make the idea of diving back into that world seem really appealing. Is anyone else picking this one up?
Other Systems
There are a few other games that have caught my eye for June, one I may get to, and one Jay and I are eagerly anticipating but will have to wait on because neither of us owns a Playstation 5. The game that we’ll be waiting on is Death Stranding 2. We are thrilled that another Death Stranding is being made, since we both adored the first one. But with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch happening in the same month as this game’s release, there as no way we were going to be able to buy our Switch 2’s and a Playstation 5 to be able to play Death Stranding 2 at its release. A shame–it would have been a great thing to enjoy the next time Jay visits me. But if it ended up with us using a tripod to share it via Discord like we did with the first game, I’m a-okay with waiting until it eventually gets released on Steam.

The other game that has sparked my interest is an otome visual novel being released by Voltage Inc. and Amulit, it’s new brand for console platforms. It’s called The Red Bell’s Lament and appears to deal with vampires and vampire hunters. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a fondness for paranormal romance, whether it’s between humans and beings of dubious supernatural origins, or between humans fighting against said supernatural beings.
This game has two other things that stand out in my opinion, too. A flowchart system: yay for knowing what branches I’ve already gone down. Jay showed me how valuable those can be when we were playing Zero Escape. Secondly, it seems to have some kind of gameboard mechanic. A lot of my favorite visual novels have some other element beyond just storytelling. I’ve never played on that has anything like that on my own before, though. Jay usually does the games that have that. So we’ll have to see how this goes. Regardless, for anyone interested The Red Bell’s Lament launches for Nintendo Switch on June 5th.
The last new release that I’m hyped for is my pick for June’s Game of the Month, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. I’ll likely get this one for PC, since I tend to like using guides for gift giving and such in this kind of game. Having the game and an internet browser without shifting back and forth between the Switch and my PC will be convenient. I can’t decide if I want to play as the male lead since I love his design, or play as the female lead because some of the bachelors look really cool. Is anyone else getting the new Rune Factory? Have any of the characters grabbed your interest?
Blog and Channel Goals:
I’m starting to research getting an Elgato Capture Card and a second screen—likely a monitor for this one—so I’ll be able to record footage on my new Switch 2 and do live streaming if / when I want to. I’m still debating whether I want a new desk so I can get a bigger screen, or if I’ll go with a 24” monitor and run my computer in a dual screen setup so I can use that other screen if I have my Switch / Switch 2 running on my main screen. I’m mainly holding off on all of this to ensure capture cards work properly with Switch 2. I’d hate to go to all the trouble of buying one and have things mess up.
As for upcoming posts and game coverage, here are a few of the reviews and articles I’m hoping to release this month, as long as things don’t get crazy:
— A review of Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time
— A review of Mario Kart World
— A review of Trials of Mana
— A review of Dragon Quest III: HD 2D Remake
— An article about how my dad has impacted my life as a gamer
— My first impressions of the Nintendo Switch 2
— An article with my tips for tackling and managing a gaming backlog
Steam Summer Sale
The end of the month will also see the start of the Steam Summer Sale, which appears to be scheduled to rune from June 26th to July 10th 2025. I’m a total shopaholic who loves a good deal, so keep an eye open. I’ll definitely have some shopping tips, an article on stuff I’m hoping to see on sale, and a recommendation guide based on games I think are fab that go on for a good bargain.
As you can see, June 2025 is shaping up to be a crazy busy month. Please note that anything I’ve listed here is something I hope to get done. I’m still massively in the process of getting this place put together in general. But the majority of what I’ve talked about here should not really pose a problem. So, what are your plans for June? Any particular game you’re looking forward to getting or that you want to beat? Feel free to let me know.
